Primary suite sitting area at Hillside Haven: a chaise and fireplace beside bay windows looking over spruce to Cook Inlet

Anchorage Hillside · 6 bedrooms · Sleeps 13

Room for everyone, and a view to match

Big windows look west over Cook Inlet to Mount Susitna and the Alaska Range. One March guest watched the sunset over the water for two hours. Another called the views "extraordinary, even for Alaska."

Inside, 13 people can spread across three levels and still come together at a dining table for ten. The top floor is a private primary suite with a fireplace, its own deck and a jetted tub. Downstairs, kids get a TV and play room of their own. All of it sits on a quiet, wooded lot where moose wander through and only one neighbor's house is in sight.

Made for a winter stay

Heat you don't think about. In-floor heating, a corner gas fireplace in the living room and a second fireplace in the primary suite.

A backup generator. Winter storms occasionally knock out power in Anchorage. The house has a generator that keeps everything running: heat, lights, Wi-Fi, the kitchen, all of it.

A real kitchen. Large gas stove, two ovens, dishwasher, island seating and a dining table for ten. Pots, pans, baking sheets and pantry basics are stocked.

Space to spread out. The living room for gathering, a downstairs TV and play room for kids, a games and puzzle shelf, and a primary suite with a jetted tub for the end of a ski day.

Laundry. A full-size washer and dryer for wet ski layers and longer stays.

Outdoors. Decks with a gas grill, a private patio with a fire pit, and a yard where moose sometimes pass through.

Good to know before you book

  • Rent a car at the airport. The Hillside is residential and spread out, so you'll want your own wheels. Groceries and restaurants are about 8 minutes away, downtown and the airport about 20. Winter is the cheapest season to rent a car in Anchorage; summer is the opposite.
  • Stairs. The house is on several levels and is not wheelchair accessible.
  • Not included: the garage, and a separate mother-in-law suite below the house that has its own entrance and no access to the main home.
  • House rules: no smoking, no pets, no parties or events. The primary renter must be 25 or older. A rental agreement and security deposit are required on some booking channels.
  • Kids are welcome. There is a pack 'n play, a high chair, children's books and toys, and a kids' table.
  • Wildlife. Moose and bears are part of life on the Hillside. Enjoy them from a distance and never approach or feed them.

Rates and booking

Winter rates run about $650 to $750 a night for the whole house, with holidays at the higher end. Split across a group of 10 to 13, that works out to roughly $50 to $75 per person per night. Ask the hosts about longer winter stays.
